This has been different from the previous fixed retirement age with the notion of younger breeds of employees are much better than older ones, since the former was perceived as aggressive, more innovative, more creative, and are thus, more productive. The statistics posed by UK labour force indicative of a necessity for UK to attract 2.1 million entrants to the adult workforce signifies the adult's demand for these jobs, and hence, a designed HR strategy focussing towards this scenario. The holistic management strategy suggests a more participatory stance for the ageing population. However, as the UK has a default retirement age of 65 alongside limited opportunities for older workers leading to the inference that the demographics are not in employers' favour, it goes to say then that a tighter law must ensure the welfare of the aged employees in terms of retirement (Blyton and Turnbull 1 992). For the organisation, this would suggest a restructuring of retirement scheme, extending the retirement age for employees while others might continue with their phased retirement, caused by a not too stringent policy on retirement. As the report concludes that the need can be met only through a combination of most adults working longer and an increase in the number of adults, such as unemployed people and mothers re-entering the labour market, the organisation will be impacted with retraining of these people who used to be outside the work force for a long time. The HR function will have to synergize with the modification of the workplace that either rises the retirement age of its ageing employees and/or hires unemployed people and mothers, who have diverse needs and different job approaches. The HR would have to structure its functions to these people, who need to employ greater adaptability in order to adjust to the new work setting (Brewster 1995). Female employees who use d to be full-time mothers have likewise diverse needs that the HR should focus on and must be able to provide, such as a day care system within the workplace in which mothers can frequently visit for their infants. This is one option of the organisation in terms of hiring adults to the workforce but not necessarily extending the retirement age of ageing employees. Extending employees' retirement age can be viewed in two ways; either positively or negatively. People who view that the psychological and physical capabilities of ageing people might not be as healthy as those of the younger ones would say that it is just appropriate that the organisation give them a retirement pay and let them rest from the tiresome buzz of everyday work. It may also be viewed in a way in which retirement age must be fixed and pursuing an otherwise policy means catering to the demand of the capitalist market to extract more labour power from the workers, despite their ageing condition. On the other hand, advocates of holistic age management strategy view the extended retirement period as one that only enhances the capacity of ageing population and viewing them as still productive members of the organisation and society despite their age (Rubinstein and Kochan 2001). This might also cater to the view that older people are wiser, more experienced, and are more learne d than the younger ones. This scenario impacts the individual in two ways as well. (Cobham, 1998) However, with the recent economic trends, economists of various countries noted that low inflation can, in fact, coexist with low unemployment rate (Oliver, 1999). Such observed trend is deemed to be contrary to the hypothesis of Phillips. This paper discusses the inflation and unemployment rate trend in Australia from 1994 to 2004. The paper aims to provide an explanation as to why the "Phillips Hypothesis" is regarded as an insufficient or inapplicable too to be used in analysing the relationship between the two economic factors. For over 40 years, the link between inflation and unemployment has been intensely debated upon by economists all over the world (Oliver, 1999). They hypothesis postulated by Phillips has been subjected to myriad criticisms regarding its ability to explain the inflation-unemployment relation. For instance, in the 1970s, the Phillips curve fell short of elucidating why many countries experienced stagflation - an economic condition characterised by high level of unemployment coupled with high level of inflation ("Wikipedia," 2005). With this, new theories emerged to better illustrate the observed link between inflation and unemployment levels. One of the most notable is the theory on non-accelerating inflation rate of unemployment (NAIRU) or the natural rate of unemployment. Based on this theory, the short term Phillips curve is negatively sloping showing the inverse relationship between unemployment (on the x-axis) and inflation (on the y-axis). (Samuelson & Nordhaus, 2001) On the other hand, the long run Phillips curve is vertical, wherein only the natural rate of unemployment was consistent with stable inflation rate as expectations of market players change. In this regard, no trade-off is seen between inflation and unemployment in the long run. However, this theory is critiqued due to the difficulty in determining the natural unemployment rate. (Levacic & Rebmann, 1982) Another theory, which is influential in explaining the inflation-unemployment linkage, is the one postulated by Milton Friedman. He argued that the Phillips curve is formed due to "money illusion" such that the price inflation "fooled" businesses into perceiving that there is demand surge. As such, they hire more people, thus, decreasing the unemployment rate. Friedman's theory asserted that inflation tends to precede drops in unemployment rather than follow it. (Oliver, 1999) Other economists believe that, contrary to Friedman's theory, low unemployment raises bargaining power of workers. Given this, they tend to push for higher nominal wages resulting in cost-push inflation. Employers then would raise prices to remain within targeted profit level. Family Domestic Violence Assessment Social Work Essay Mrs. Chan has a family of four including a son and a daughter. She first came for help because of the bad father-son relationship in her family. During the interview, she disclosed the fact that she has been suffered from domestic violent for about one year. Four interviews were conducted by the worker. The purpose was to help assess the situation and set up an intervention plan to dismiss domestic violent in the family and create a harmony family atmosphere. Background information The client, Mrs. Chan, is a housewife and her husband runs a grocery store. They have an 11-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter. The financial status of the family is adequate. Problem assessment Clients perception of the problems During the interview sessions, Mrs. Chan explained her views on the problem. Mrs. Chan worried about the bad father-son relationship in the family. For example, they seldom talk to each other. The sons school work was getting work and had strange behaviors. Mrs. Chan told the worker that she was abused by her husband and tolerated it for about one year. She had mentioned if her husband took out a knife, she could not stand it. When this happened, the client worried about she and her two childrens safety. Works perception of the problems According to Family-Centre Approach (Waldegrave , 2005), the family system would be disturb if there is one problem in the family. It suggest to focus on one problem and to regain the balance step by step. The worker observed that the family have several problems . The family members tolerated them but not tried to solve them, they lacked of focus on the problems. Domestic violent Mrs. Chan suffered from domestic violent since last year. Mr. Chan abused Mrs. Chan and even took out a knife to threat. The worker observed that the client and her childrens safety were at risk. Spousal relationship The unsolved domestic violent would trigger the other problem in the family (Waldegrave , 2005). The worker found that Mr. Chan was not respectful enough towards Mrs. Chan. He abused his wife and did not consider her physical hurt and trauma. Mrs. Chan tolerated it for a long time and never asked for help. Tolerate is not help for problem solving. Father-son relationship The family is the fundamental resource for the nurturing of children and parents should be supported in their efforts to care for their children (Waldegrave , 2005). The domestic violent affected the father-son relationship. The children witnessed the father beat the mother, this arouse the hatred of them towards the father. During the interviews, the worker found the client had suffered from domestic violence for a long time. She had many worries and hard to decide the arrangements, for example, financial concern and childrens school issue. Agreed view of the clients and the worker The client and the worker agreed that safety is the first concern. We thought that Mrs. Chan and her two childrens were in a dangerous situation. The domestic violent led to other problem in the family, such as the father-son relationship and the sons behavior problem. Based on Mrs. Chan determination to change, it was hope that the domestic violent could be dismiss and a more harmonious atmosphere would be create in the family. So the workers first concern was the clients safety. Refuge centers provide temporary accommodation to females and their children in face of domestic violence or family crisis. The social worker would refer the client for the Harmony House for safety concern. She can have a safe place to stay and think about what to do next. Domestic violence support group Many women think that telling others or reporting to the police of the violence is betrayal and disloyal to the husband, she is also breaking the trust and friendship between the two (Towns, Adams and Gavey, 2003). According to the case, Mrs.Chan was reluctant about telling the abusing problem at first and informed that she had never told others before. So it is good for her to communicate with others in the same situation and face the problem not tolerate it. This interaction would benefit her decision making. Emotional management and interpersonal relationship workshops Mrs. Chan indicated that Mr. Chan was not good at controling his emotion and got hot temper. These workshops are conflict resolution trainings that help abusing men deal with their emotions in a healthy manner. The workshops emphasize empathy, forgiveness, and understanding. Through the course of the workshops he will be able to control anger . Counseling with the children Kolbo(1996) suggest the negative effects of witnessing domestic violence on childrens emotional and behavioral development. The domestic violent behaviors had bad effect on the children. The son worse in study and hate his father. It is necessary counsel the children for further intervention. Apply family therapy Use risk assessment to evaluate two of the couple are ready for the family therapy, and the safety monitoring is ongoing. In the condition that the husband was conscious that his violence was irrational and the wife was willing to counsel with the husband. The family-centre approach believe that families who seem hopeless can grow and change (Boone, 2002). All family member is responsible to the harmony of the family.

Marketing: Sense and New Balance Essay

New Balance has been in business for 103 years. The company started in Boston manufacturing shoes of police officers, waiters and any other occupations that kept people on their feet all day. In the 1970’s New Balance switched its focus and decided to make athletic shoes for all athletes. New Balance marketing department decided it was time to go overseas and to make money so, they open retail store in 2010. The stores are called Experience Stores located in Beijing and Shanghai. New Balance stores decoration emphasizes on the company’s heritage and accomplishment over the years. The marketing team of New Balance uses five senses to market the Experience Store in China. From the time customer walk in the door they get the feeling they’re in a different era from the music to smell of the store. A DNA ribbon† in each Experience Store accents the company’s history and accomplishments. The store setting promotes DNA concept and brings customer to the second floor where the store has a more modern setting. New Balance was planning its entry to China the Experience stores shows the concept of sensory branding that is the process in which is a brand experience that calls upon all of the senses in reflecting a company’s brand. To keep the concept of Total Fit the stores include healthy running tips, pointers on foot care and input from well known runners in China. Questions: 1. Do you think opening retail stores in China is a good move for New Balance? Why or Why not? I think it was a good move for New Balance to move to China. It’s a good idea for any company or any company to expand their business overseas it is just good business practice this day and age. 2. Genre Analysis Essay

Whenever we get sick, we see a doctor. We go to see a doctor to get a prescription to a drug which will make us better. We take the drug until we are better and once we are we store the drug in a cabinet for later. Many of us do not know that by keeping the unused drugs we are putting people around us in danger; especially children and teens. Children and teens are more curious to try the drugs and see the different reactions to their body not knowing one can be fatal and the other addicting. A lot of people do not notice the severity of leaving such powerful drugs unattended and are later faced with the terrible consequences of their actions. Due to recent cases of prescription drug abuse, the media is sending out to messages to make the public aware of the problem and show the different ways that it can be prevented. These messages or genres play an important part in the audience response. Credibility, image, words, and color will structure the message and see how effective it is. Using two different genres one will be more effective than the other and communicate the message more effectively. Purpose and Audience  The flyer â€Å"Join us in helping parents prevent teen prescription drug abuse† by Raymond Coalition for Youth is structured for individuals who want to prevent the problem from happening. This flyer could be posted in doctor’s offices, pharmacies, grocery stores, and community centers making the information open to anyone who sees it and is interested in reading the information provided. There is no need to look it up online or go to certain places to see it.
